Guide
The rest of the day
A walk, a spa, a chocolate counter, or a family outing, once the visit has its hour. Or instead of one.
The map’s other pins are the hours that are not a glass. One of them beside a visit is plenty. Two, if the party has split and somebody is walking while somebody else is sitting down. A round of golf is the exception, and that guide is the one to read first.
A walk. The short ones sit in a town you are already in. Craigellachie and the Telford Bridge is level. Ness Islands is a loop from Inverness. Holyrood Park is under the crags, and the lower paths are the gentler version. McCaig’s Tower is the Oban wander from the station clock. The Birks of Aberfeldy and the Falls of Bruar are the gorge pair. Glen Nevis, Loch an Eilein, the Linn of Dee and Talisker Bay want a bit more of the day.
Chocolate. A counter, not a second tour. The Highland Chocolatier is in Grandtully. Gordon and Durward is the Crieff sweet shop. Oban Chocolate Company looks through a window on the esplanade. Cocoa Mountain is on Castle Street in Dornoch.
A spa. Book it. The Spa at Gleneagles likes the day, and the golf is separate. Kohler Waters Spa is in the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews. Edinburgh has Irene Forte Spa in the Balmoral and One Spa at the Sheraton. Cameron Spa is at Cameron House, on Loch Lomond. Stobo Castle is the Borders one.
With children. Landmark Forest Adventure Park is the treetops at Carrbridge. Tobermory harbour is the waterfront beside the distillery, after the ferry.
Things to do has the written trips as well, when you want the order already settled. The weather still gets the deciding vote.
