Guide
A round of golf
Visitor courses on the Fife, East Lothian, Angus and Ayrshire coasts, inland, and on the islands. The round likes the day to itself.
A round wants the morning, and usually the afternoon. These are the courses checked so far. Scotland has more clubs than this, including a lot of parkland the map has not taken on.
Fife. The Old Course is the ballot. The New Course, the Jubilee and the Eden are the other town links, on the same site, and they are not that draw. The Castle Course is east, on the cliff. Kingsbarns is a different village. Down the Neuk: Elie, Crail, Dumbarnie, Lundin and Leven. Scotscraig is at Tayport. Ladybank is inland. Leuchars, then the bus, for the town.
East Lothian. North Berwick takes visitors Sunday to Thursday, not Friday or Saturday. Gullane is three courses on West Links Road. Muirfield is Tuesday and Thursday. Dunbar is the links by the station, and Thursday is not a visitor day. Kilspindie, Craigielaw, Luffness and Archerfield are on the same coast. North Berwick and Dunbar have the stations.
Angus. Carnoustie is the Championship, and it closes for winter. Burnside and Buddon stay open. Panmure is at Barry. Arbroath and Montrose are further up the line. All three towns have stations.
Ayrshire. Prestwick held the first Open, and Saturday is members only. Royal Troon is the Old Course on Craigend Road. Turnberry is the Ailsa, south of Ayr. Between Troon and Irvine: Western Gailes, Dundonald and Gailes Links. Lochgreen, Darley and Fullarton are the public courses in Troon, not the Royal club. Troon, Prestwick and Ayr have stations.
The north, and the Dee. Royal Dornoch and Cabot Highlands were already on the map. Nairn is east of Inverness. Brora is north of Dornoch, with Tain and Golspie between them. Royal Aberdeen is at Bridge of Don, and Cruden Bay is further up. Boat of Garten is the round in the pines. Braemar is up the Dee. Gleneagles is still its own day, and not the spa.
Islands. The Machrie is Islay. Machrihanish and the Dunes are Kintyre, past Kennacraig, not the ferry. Shiskine is Arran. Ardfin is Jura. Askernish is South Uist. Traigh is Arisaig. The Skye course is at Sconser, where the Raasay ferry leaves.
Green fees move with the month. The figure on a course page is what the club listed on 11 October 2026. Where a page has no figure, the club’s own button is the rate. Open it again before you travel.
