Royal Lochnagar is a small distillery at Crathie, a short walk in spirit from Balmoral and a real drive from Aberdeen or Braemar. The day is the Dee: one booked visit, then the castle grounds if they are open, or a walk in the valley.

Balmoral’s own opening is seasonal and is not a distillery ticket. Check it on Balmoral’s site. Ballater and Braemar are the beds. Braemar Golf Club is in the village, and Aboyne is on the way up. Neither of them is the same morning as the distillery.
