Fort William holds the Ben Nevis distillery at Lochy Bridge, on the edge of town. The mountain above the town is a serious hill day and a separate decision from a tour.

Mull is another journey, and a lovely one. The CalMac crossing is from Oban, and Tobermory sits at the harbour once you are over. The ferry likes a look at the timetable before anyone promises a late tour. Fort William can have its own day. The mountain prefers it that way.

Ardnamurchan is the long road west to Glenbeg, and the distillery keeps weekdays. Nc’nean is across the sound at Drimnin, on Morvern, and it wants a booking. Neither of them is a pause between ferries. Traigh is the nine-hole links at Arisaig, on that west road, and it is a day of its own. On Mull, the golf is above Tobermory, not the harbour hour.
