Watercolour of a single-track road through a glen at sunset

3 days

Skye, slowly

Portree for the nights, a booked hour at Talisker, and the bay when the single-track has time for it.

Skye spends the afternoon just arriving. The single-track spends whatever you had left.

Sleep in Portree, or somewhere you are happy to return to. Moving bags across the island to save twenty minutes is how people miss the tour.

Day one. Arrive, and let the island be the outing. The bridge has already used up the hurrying.

Day two. Talisker in Carbost. Their page puts it about 45 minutes from Portree when the road is clear. Book ahead in summer. It sits nicely at the end of the afternoon, with Portree still to come home to. Torabhaig, on Sleat, and Raasay, a short ferry from Sconser, are other mornings.

Day three. Talisker Bay if you want the shore. It starts in the hamlet of Talisker, further west, not at the distillery gate. An easy hour to a beach, a sea stack, and a waterfall. A different Talisker entirely, which is very like the island.
