Watercolour of a single-track road through a glen at sunset

Perthshire, without a tasting

The Birks or the Falls of Bruar, a chocolate counter, and a spa at Gleneagles if you have already phoned.

This is the pause between the south and the Highlands. There is no distillery page here yet, so the plan does not invent one.

Grandtully, Crieff, Aberfeldy, Bruar, and Auchterarder share a region and very few roads. Pick two.

A walk. The Birks of Aberfeldy, a wooded gorge above the town, or the Falls of Bruar, a short steep path off the A9 near Blair Atholl. Pick one.

Chocolate. The Highland Chocolatier in Grandtully, five minutes off the A9, or Gordon and Durward on the high street in Crieff. The Grandtully stop sits easily with Aberfeldy. Crieff is its own hour.

A spa, booked. The Spa at Gleneagles in Auchterarder. Phone them. Afternoon tea, if the package offers it, and a day that does not also try to contain a gorge.

Two of these fill a weekend. All of them in a day is how you see Perthshire through a windscreen.
